Multiple California County District Attorneys are Seeking Murder Charges in Overdose Deaths
Riverside County’s District Attorney and other officials are calling for the passage of state legislation that cracks down on dealers of fentanyl and other drugs when one of their customers dies of an overdose or poisoning. As the legislation is reviewed, the Riverside County DA is currently prosecuting seven such cases against alleged fentanyl dealers.
In nearby San Bernardino County, the District Attorney’s Office filed a murder charge against a young man for allegedly selling fentanyl to another who died of an overdose, making him the second person San Bernardino County prosecutors have charged with murder in a fentanyl-related death.
In Orange County, the District Attorney has announced that his department will begin charging those drug dealers who have previously pled guilty to fentanyl sales and who later are accused of fentanyl sales that cause death with murder.
